Urban Decay have lost their Leaping Bunny status...

For many years I have been a loyal fan of Urban Decay, not only because of their extensive range of edgy cosmetics but most importantly their outspoken stance on animal testing:
"WE DON'T TEST ON ANIMALS, HOW COULD ANYONE" ™

Unfortunately, earlier today is was announced that Urban Decay have lost their Leaping Bunny status due to expanding their market to China...

They say: Urban Decay is going to sell our products in China. Because of China’s policies on animal testing, we know that this will not be a popular decision with some of our loyal customers. But the decision is a thoughtful one.... For 16 years, we have been committed to two key causes: women’s rights, and the fight against animal testing. Our dedication to those causes will not waver.

Read their entire statement here:

Being totally honest, I'm not really sure what else I can say right now, I am genuinely disappointed & as it stands, I'm sad to say, I shall no longer be purchasing their products... I think I shall write a more thoughtful entry on the matter tomorrow, when I've had a chance to get my head around it. Granted my thoughts won't change, I will however, be able to present them in a more coherent manner...

get involved: Sign the petition & urge Urban Decay to refuse animal testing in China

  1. This actually makes me really angry. Why do so many companies backtrack on their morals? I have a trip to london planned and was going to treat myself to my first UD palette there but now I won't bother. It's disgusting. How dare they! It just proves that no matter what a company says, it's all about money in the end.

    1. It's definitely a big let down! If you're making a trip into London for some new cosmetics you might like to try Sugarpill Cosmetics, which are available in Cyberdog (Camden) also Illamasqua have a counter in Selfridges on Oxford Street & their flagship store on Beak Street.. ^__^

      Happy Shopping! x

    2. Thank-you, I had forgotten that Sugarpill is now in Cyberdog! I wanted to order some stuff from them before but couldn't justify the price with the shipping + import tax and that stupid fee that royal mail charge -.- and yes I have Illamasqua on my list =) I want to find some Zoya polishes but I can't find anywhere that stocks them..

I'm SO angry with MAC and Urban Decay. Even if the petition works, the very fact that they have considered this shows that they don't care about cruelty to animals. I just wonder which company will be next.

    3. I agree, it's fabulous that it's now available in the UK, I can't wait to try the products! I used to use the Mac Studio Fix foundation & was gutted when they were announced as no longer CF, I decided to try the Illamasqua skin base foundation & I wish I'd tried it sooner! I'm not familiar with Zoya, but I've looked on their site & I'm curious ^__^

Hopefully there will be enough backlash with UD that other companies won't do the same! x

    4. Zoya are great, all of their polishes are vegan, big 5 free and cruelty free! I just wish they weren't so darned expensive in this country!
I hope you're right, did you see the statement on Lush's website?

THIS is what UD should have done. xx
