Ich Bin Nicht Ein Roboter...

Evening Blog-Lings!

There's much too moan about this week, so I'm having trouble focusing...  From thieving bin men, who wouldn't let me put my recycling in the recycling (I stood my ground), to large vehicles on the motorway who cannot stick to one lane...
It's all been happening this week!

I've decided this weeks post shall focus upon the very annoying word verification - formerly known as captcha

Most of you will have come across this, possibly when buying tickets online for gigs; theatres, sports events etc... In regards to purchasing tickets, captcha was designed to prevent touts from purchasing large quantities of tickets, to be sold on at extortionate prices & preventing Joe Bloggs from getting a fair deal...

CAPTCHA is used as a security measure & it usually involves a visual perception task, which humans are able to pass, yet computers & robots cannot.

On a daily basis, the captcha system on tickets sites doesn't really bother me, I just wanted to give some additional info...

What I'm finding really frustrating is when I leave comments upon other blogs & when I  click the publish button, I'm then expected to decipher blurry, illegible letters & numbers in order to prove I'm not a robot...

There are a number of options available for who & how readers can comment on your blog... From the writers point of view, the freedom to comment & the visibility of said comments is a personal preference. From a point of safety, it's always advisable that the writer takes on the role of moderator. I have this on my blog, it allows me to keep my blog clean; free from foul language & most of all, free from spam - I can't see how having word verification would be beneficial to any blogger, as with everything else there are options... word verification + approval, word verification & no approval or no moderation whatsoever.

So who is using word verification?
If you do, tell me why I shouldn't moan about it & how it would be beneficial to my blog...

Perhaps, next time I go to comment on a blog which has to verify I am not a robot...
I should leave this video!

  2. I hate captcha as we discussed previously, on blogs they are ridiculously hard and I refresh until I get one I can read!

I do hope you share the bin men story at some point! And I share your aversion to large vehicles not just on motorways! Perhaps next Monday's moan!
