Earlier today, whilst watching a video about Illamasqua’s ‘Fight For a Fair Beauty Price’ campaign I couldn’t help but notice the quote which the youtuber had written prior to introducing his video…
It read: “Life is too short to spend hoping that the perfectly arched eyebrow or hottest new lip shade will mask an ugly heart” - This quote is one of many fabulous words spoken & written by Kevyn Aucoin, this prompted me to find out more about the man behind the words.
Born in 1962, Kevyn sadly died in 2002, he was an American make-up artist; photographer & beauty writer, he had a number of books published & worked with many celebrities.
I like his ideas & his quotes are empowering.. I was also impressed when reading the FAQ’s on his companies website, that they do not test on animals, favouring to reply ‘absolutely not, we test our products on each other’.
It seems that Kevyn had a great understanding of how we should feel about ourselves, bowing out to the pressures which society puts on us to act & look a certain way.
Here are a couple of quotes, which I particularly like…
Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can’t put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you’re doing it from a position of correction
Beauty might bring happiness, but happiness always brings beauty.
Beauty has a lot to do with character.
